Job description


Geological Operations
  • Ensure that mining takes place safely by identifying areas of instability and communicating them accordingly.
  • Inspect benches and berms for signs of rock instability.
  • Carry out face mapping and record the orientation of geological discontinuities.
  • Carry out walk-over surveys and look for evidence of previous and potential rock falls, open cracks/back breaks, and undercut faces where dangerous “hanging” conditions exist in and around the pit.
  • Carry out field and photogrammetry mapping of mined faces in the Pit and Underground.
  • Assist with demarcation of areas in different risk categories.
  • Update hazard plan maps regularly.
  • Take water level readings in water boreholes.
  • Core logging, including detailed geotechnical structure zone logs and quick logs.
  • Field tests on core such as tilt test and Point load.
  • Capturing of the core images, numbering, and labelling of the core boxes.
  • Daily inspection and monitoring of the ArcSAR and Fixed Module Slope Monitoring Radar and troubleshooting of errors.
  • Carry out any reasonable instruction as allocated by the supervisor.
Other Non-Technical Departments – Finance, Supply Chain, HR, Security, ONR & Farm
  • Exposure to support functions provided by other departments.
Safety, Health, and Environment 
  • Comply with the B2Gold Golden Rules, Code of Conduct and all Policies
  • Ensure compliance with all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in safety and/or toolbox meetings and conduct a monthly safety inspection of the work area based on the schedule set by Management.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and keep the assigned work area clean and tidy.
  • Report all unsafe acts and conditions, injuries, accidents, equipment damage and near-miss incidents to the supervisor promptly.
  • Wear and maintain the PPE appropriate to the task and area while on duty.


Minimum requirements


  • Grade 12
  • Minimum B.Sc. Honours Degree in Geology or any related / equivalent qualifications
  • NQF 7
