Description
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To monitor environmental impacts of the mine operations and to enforce compliance of environmental laws and company standards, policies and procedures.
Key Performance Areas:
- Implement legislative requirements for particular activities and confirm with the line management that appropriate environmental permissions and permits have been obtained before the Contractor/EUD commences activities.
- Implement practices and facilities in respect of environmental risks.
- Ensure minimization of risks by fostering the employment of environmentally sound technologies and appropriate procedures.
- Attend work risk assessments and provide input on environmental aspects/impacts.
- Conduct regular internal site audits according to prepared schedule.
- Provide guidance in terms of compliance with waste management programmes and sites.
- Report all environmental incidences which may occur within designated area of responsibility.
- Conduct Contractor/EUD close out audits and issue Environmental Completion Certificates.
- Provide Guidance to EUDs regarding the Environmental Incident Management processes.
- Ensure that rehabilitation of areas affected by the Contactor’s construction / operational activities take place, to restore the area to an agreed upon state.
- Conduct environmental awareness campaigns and training to the Contractors and Swakop Uranium employees.
Requirements
Requirements and experience:
- Grade 12 or current NSSCO with 20 points over 5 subjects.
- BSc/BTech/BA Degree in Environment Management or Natural Sciences.
- 3 years’ experience in environmental field and compliance monitoring.
- Environmental field and Compliance monitoring experience in a mining is an added advantage.
- Off-road driving experience will be an added advantage.
- Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License.
