MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To perform all activities and processes related to the implementation of the fire prevention and management and emergency response plan inclusive of inspections on firefighting and emergency systems as per applicable policies, procedures, regulations and laws.

Key Performance Areas:

• Identify hazardous materials, evaluate the possibilities of potential loss and establish appropriate corrective procedures.
• Use effective firefighting and emergency methods in dealing with an incident.
• Participate in fire and emergency incident investigations and crisis drills.
• Advise end-users on fire-related standards according to NOSA Safety Standards.
• Provide information to various departments on matters relating to fire, by participating in departmental safety committee meetings.
• Participate in risk assessments.
• Maintain inspection and work order database.
• Conduct quality checks on maintenance of fire and emergency systems and verify that suppliers have conducted effective maintenance.
• Coordinate Emergency and Fire equipment store inventory and stock control and coordinate the distribution of, Fire and emergency equipment on site.
• Operate all emergency vehicles and on board equipment.
• Update and refresh Emergency and Rescue Training

Requirements and experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science/Fire Safety Management/Emergency Management/Disaster/Risk Management
• 3 years’ experience in firefighting and emergency response in a mining environment.
• Experience in extrication, rope rescue and HAZMAT.
• Fire Fighting 1 and Fire Fighting 2 certification.
• Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License.
