Assistant Accountant at the Government Institutions Pension Fund

Position:   Assistant Accountant: Accounts Payable

Reports to:   Accountant: Accounts Payable

Department:   Finance and Administration

 

Purpose of the Position:

To perform supporting accounting duties in the major accounting areas ranging from transaction processing, and reconciliation to analysis to reports.

Key Performance Areas:

  • To perform administrative tasks as required within the Finance, departmental and support the accounting processes at a task level.
  • Liaise with internal and external customers and provide, financial information for creditors queries
  • Receive invoices for payment processing.
  • Prepare payment for the accountant accounts payable, using the appropriate system
  • Maintain aspect or components of financial records (i.e. invoices, insurance records, claims, disputes, etc.
  • Develop a record keeping system that deals with the Fund’s accounting record requirements.
  • Process all Forex payments and send to the Bank’s forex department.
  • Maintain petty cash for the Head office for payment of small incidental expenditures
  • In collaboration with the Accountant Accounts payment of small incidental expenditures.
  • In Collaboration with the accountant accounts payable, process payroll files of employees and trustees
  • Verify and ensure the corrections of s&t claims submitted.
  • Attend to audit queries at the end of the financial year and provide requested documentation to external auditors as required.
  • Ensure timely payments of statutory payments on or before the stipulated due date to avoid interest and penalties
  • Keep up to date with organisational developments in the industry as well as all other relevant developments on national and internal level and propose innovations accordingly.

Job-related qualifications and experience:

  • A degree in accounting
  • Three (3) years accounting experience (accounts payable) NQF Level 7

 

The incumbent should have the following knowledge, skills and Attributes:

 Knowledge of: 

 Accounting software, admin and banking procedures, creditors system, corporate governance, financial accounting, financial systems, payroll administration, pension fund rules and regulations, reconciliation, systems procedures, transaction processing and GAAP.

Skills:

Accounting, administration, analytical, customer user service detail problem solving, evaluation, feedback, financial, integrative thinking ability, interpersonal, listening, logical reasoning, planning, presentation, project management, reconciliation, report writing, time management and written and oral communication.
