Foreman – Silo

An excellent career opportunity exists for interested and qualified candidates to apply for the above-mentioned position at Namib Mills (Pty) Ltd, Otavi.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

To confirm that raw materials (maize/ mahangu) received are in accordance with quality specifications. Further, ensuring that the quality of raw materials is maintained during storage through application of competence obtained through Maize Grading qualification.

KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sample all incoming raw material (maize/grain).
  • Grade incoming raw materials in accordance with specifications.
  • Report any quality nonconformance’s to Supervisor.
  • Record grading results and submit for Supervisor’s approval.
  • Place raw materials in designated Silos as per instructions.
  • Organise/monitor loading/ offloading of grain/offal as per instruction.
  • Arrange transport for offal as and when needed.
  • Dispatch offal to Feedmaster in Windhoek as per ISO procedures.
  • Report all break downs/damages to Silo equipment.
  • Supervise housekeeping daily at intake and Silo.
  • Supervise cleaning of Silos when emptied.
  • Perform pest control as and when needed or when instructed to do so.
  • Managed/report absenteeism of Silo employees to Supervisor.
  • Ensure a safe working environment in accordance with health and safety regulations for Silo workers at all times.
  • Provide assistance to internal /SABS auditors with ISO audits.
  • Perform other ad hoc tasks as requested and provide feedback.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 (NQF 4) with Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar work environment.
  • Qualification in Maize Grading

OR

  • In absence of a Maize grading qualification, candidate should be willing to undertake external training course/s successfully as deemed necessary by the company. The employee’s continued employment is thus contingent upon the Employee’s successful completion of the required exams relevant to the position.
  • Be able to work shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime.
  • Should be Computer literate.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Namibian Citizenship.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Essential to work in a team environment as a team member.
  • Must be able to produce quality work.
