Peace Corps, Namibia is seeking individuals to support requirements of language and cross-culture planning, presentations, and community integration during Pre-Service Training (PST) for an estimated contract period 5 months beginning on June 04, 2023 and ending December 08, 2023.
Peace Corps Namibia is a U.S. Government Agency assisting Namibia in meeting its need for a trained and qualified work force in the education and health fields. We are preparing a training program to commence shortly, and we are looking for a Homestay Coordinator to fulfill the under mentioned functions.
Homestay is a key cultural component of the program whereby American Volunteers live with Namibian families during their training, learning how to successfully integrate into various Namibian cultures.
The duties of a PST Homestay Coordinator include but are not limited to: 70%
Volunteer & LCFs Homestay Management
- Organizes the final development of Center/Community Based Training (CBT) sites.
- Site Identification and preparation – In coordination with Training Manager (TM), Language &Cross-Culture Coordinator (LCC) and Training Coordinator (TC), identify and selects host families for Trainees and LCFs.
- Site management strategy – Holds Host Families Orientation meetings in the area where Pre-Service and Community Bases-Trainings are held appropriate government officials, stakeholders, and currently serving Volunteers throughout the site management process and the year to maintain regional, local, and project relationships.
- Site matching and assignment – In coordination with LCC, and LCFs, provides inputs for homestay placement.
Training (30%)
- Training Assessment – Evaluates well-being and progress of trainees during homestay and give timely feedback based on observations and other sources of information.
- Instructional Design – Work with the Training staff to review and design a training schedule that integrates language, cross-cultural and Safety & Security.
- Training Facilitation – Oversee proper orientation of host families and trainees about the homestay program. Participate in staff development workshops with full training team.
- Training Administration – Works with trainers and other training staff to organize welcoming of trainees at the CBT sites. Works with trainers and the training site staff to ensure that venues are prepared and ready for all training sessions and activities.
- Training Evaluation – Regularly visits the families and evaluate both parties (families and trainees)’s adaptation to homestay. Attends to homestay issues in a timely manner, and execute appropriate measures and resolutions.
- Language Teaching – In coordination with the LCC, ensures that the host families are equip with the needed knowledge, skills and attitude to assist Trainees with local language learning. Serve as language and cross cultural informants – assist Trainees in mastering competencies as per the four Job Functions necessary to adjust to living/working in Namibia for a professional service.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent,
- Experience in a field related to intercultural communication, community-based development project design, or management.
- Added advantages: qualification in Education / Adult Education, Community Development and related fields.
Abilities and Skills:
- Must be computer literate. Proficiency using MS Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
- Time Management and effective verbal and written communication skills are required. Good writing, analytical and problem‐solving skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Language Proficiency:
- Fluency in both spoken and written English required.
- Proficiency in one of more of Namibia’s local languages is desirable.
Physical condition:
The position is based in Okahandja, the Pre-Service Training Site. The duties and responsibilities of Homestay Coordinator may be executed from both Okahandja Training Site office or main office in Windhoek.
This is a short term contract and not a permanent position.
