Job Description

POSITION: ELECTRICIAN: ELECTRICAL INFRASTRUCTURE (X2)
DEPARTMENT: PORT ENGINEERING
LOCATION: PORT OF WALVIS BAY
JOB GRADE: 10
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To execute all installations, all medium and low voltage maintenance and repairs on electrical systems and components in a variety of infrastructure projects such as transportation networks, utility systems, buildings, and communication networks.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
▪ Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in accordance with safety codes and regulations.
▪ Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues, ensuring efficient and effective problem resolution.
▪ Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal system functionality.
▪ Prioritize, schedule, and manage tasks and projects to ensure timely completion and adherence to deadlines.
▪ Adhere to safety protocols, best practices, regulatory and compliance standards to prevent accidents and ensure a safe work
environment.
▪ Work collaboratively with other tradespeople, contractors, and team members to achieve project goals.
▪ Participate in emergency response activities to restore electrical services during outages or disruptions.
▪ Quickly diagnose and resolve electrical issues to minimize downtime and operational disruptions.
▪ Stay informed about industry advancements, emerging technologies, and best practices.
▪ Perform any other ad-hoc duties as may be required by Namport from time to time, including standby duties (when applicable) and at all Namport various Ports.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
▪ Grade 12 with a National Vocational Certificate Level 3 or equivalent [NQF Level 3] in the electrical field.
▪ A minimum of 4 (four) years relevant experience, of which a minimum 2 (two) years should have been within medium voltage environment.
▪ Advantage: High voltage switchgear and transformer/ Low & Medium Voltage Certification.
▪ Code BE driver’s license.
▪ Alternative Requirements:
▪ Grade 10 with a National Vocational Certificate Level 2 or equivalent [NQF Level 2] in the electrical field.
▪ 5 years relevant experience, of which a minimum 3 years should have been within medium voltage environment.
▪ Must be driven and possesses a strong technical know-how with sound project work queue management skills.
▪ Troubleshooting, Diagnostic ad Analytical Abilities
▪ Wiring Techniques and Electrical Components Knowledge
▪ Time Management and Task Prioritization
▪ Effective Communication (Verbal and Written)
▪ Collaboration and Teamwork
▪ Technical Knowledge of Electrical Codes and Standards
▪ Must be a Namibian Citizen.
