POSITION: SUPERVISOR GENERAL CARGO OPERATIONS X4
DEPARTMENT: PORT OPERATIONS
LOCATION: PORT OF WALVIS BAY
JOB GRADE: 8
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To supervise day-to-day General Cargo terminal, vessel and operational planning processes in compliance with relevant regulations and procedures, in order to fully optimize resources within the parameters of customer requirements and Namport business objectives. This is to ensure operational efficiency and sound service delivery for organisational success.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
▪ Ensures planning, organising and coordinating of General Cargo handling activities.
▪ Coordinate allocation of appropriate yard space for cargo discharged from vessels, and adequate storage for sensitive or / and hazardous cargo.
▪ Ensures that maintenance schedule of mechanical equipment is adhered to.
▪ Monitor vessel operations in order to achieve the most efficient vessel productivity.
▪ Create a master berthing plan with ideal vessel placement positions and ensure correct berth allocation for best vessel operation.
▪ Execute sectional strategy in support of the departmental medium- and short-term strategies, and sectional budgets.
▪ Facilitate sectional culture programs/ initiatives.
▪ Supervise General Cargo operations staff, including implementation of Performance Optimisation Policy.
▪ Contribute to safety practices, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a safe working environment.
▪ Ensure equipment utilisation and efficiency to find areas for optimisation and improvement.
▪ Assist with organising, planning and execution of routine maintenance of the mechanical lifting equipment.
▪ Ensure compliance and risk management.
▪ Ensure timely and effective service delivery to customers to drive positive customer experience.
▪ Promote effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
▪ Provide effective team leadership and support.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
▪ National Diploma or equivalent [NQF Level 6] in a relevant field, such as transport & logistics, supply chain management, business management and or project management.
▪ Advantage: Bachelors Degree [NQF Level 7] in a relevant field, such as transport & logistics, supply chain management, business management and or project management.
▪ 5 years relevant experience, which a minimum 3 years in terminal or cargo operations supervisory capacity.
▪ Driver’s License: Code BE.
▪ Advantage: Proficiency in the use of relevant computer systems and software, such as terminal operating systems and scheduling software.
SKILLS:
▪ Ability to work independently and think logically.
▪ Safety consciousness.
▪ Excellent communication and team relationship skills.
▪ Computer literacy and SAP will be an added advantage.
