Job Specifications:

The incumbent will report to the Maintenance Supervisor- Cranes and Services be accountable for:

  • Ensure compliance to all Legal, Health, Safety and Environment standards and policies as well as promoting a safety culture in area of accountability.
  • Lead by example through compliance with the company purpose and values
  • Report to work on time, and complete administrative duties
  • Identify the safety and suitability of crane prior to utilization thereof, giving cognizance to freight characteristics, equipment manufacturers’ requirements and environmental conditions.
  • Inspect work site for entry, set-up and exit of crane.
  • Operate cranes in accordance with crane code C33 – C37 and 39 and crane type operator user manual.
  • Determine weight of load and ensure that crane can support the load.
  • Assess load (weight, etc.) and install correct slings (quarterly colour coded) and shackles to suit load.
  • Carefully assess the hand signal coordination from the assistant on the ground.
  • Assist in jobs requiring work teams to be lifted to great heights to work.
  • Teach work teams sign language to enable them to communicate with him.
  • In case of an incident or accident, report incidents and accidents immediately and in accordance to company reporting procedure.
  • Report injuries immediately to Supervisor and assist with relevant information to compile accident report.
  • Clean crane prior to scheduled service commence.
  • Report and identify possible faulty equipment to engineering.

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Draw up production schedule and manage production process.
  • Manage all short to medium term activities to ensure production targets are met.
  • Lead and coordinate the work of team members to accomplish designated objectives.
  • Liaise with internal departments to ensure resources and equipment availability as required for production process.
  • Problem solving through root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate the ongoing development of knowledge, skills, and personal growth of team members by creating a high-performance team.
  • Prepare annual budgets, and controls and manages the resources in operations.
  • Support, create and maintain sound working relationships with co-workers / team members to resolve problems.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • A Grade 12 certificate with 23 points.
  • Minimum 1-year mobile crane experience on the following cranes: Grove, Liebherr up to 95T lift capacity.
  • Four-month training programme, with formative pass mark of 70%, and summative pass mark of 80%.
  • Safety Induction, Safety Awareness and Generic Safety.
  • Certificate of competency for relevant crane type Basic rigging skills.
  • Driver License Code C1 – CE.
  • Dover Psychomotor evaluation result of >80%.
  • Valid medical fitness certificate, to be renewed annually.

The incumbents will report to the Shift Supervisor and be accountable for:

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensure all Legal, Health, Safety and Environment standards and policies are adhered to.
  • Lead by example through compliance with the company purpose and values.
  • Drive hazard identifications, risk containment initiatives, and implement risk mitigation actions.
  • Compliance to the established DPM Tsumeb Operating model/work management.
  • Monitor plant performance and control.
  • Compile production shift reports at the end of each shift.
  • Conduct plant inspections as per work management.
  • Oversee and coordinate operational activities of plant sections by assisting the Shift Supervisor to allocate duties, provide instructions and relay information to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure safe operation of plant and equipment in area of accountability, including maintenance activities.
  • Operate special identified equipment – training and license required.
  • Ensure plant Isolation and Permit to Work compliance.
  • Conduct Planned Task Observations (PTOs).
  • Assist the Shift Supervisor in supervision of all ad-hoc works related to safe plant running.
  • Control inventory of plant consumables and operational equipment spares.
  • Assist operations in review and evaluation of Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) and safe work instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Grade 12 certificate with a pass in Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Internal certificate of competency of Plant Modules.
  • 5 years of operating in the process plant environment.
  • Knowledge of MAXIMO Systems.
  • Knowledge and application of Permit to Work standards and procedure.
  • Knowledge and application of Isolation and LOTO standards and procedure.
  • Knowledge and application of Confined Space standards and procedure.
  • Knowledge and application of the plant specific technical training.
  • Knowledge and application of Work Management.
  • Demonstrate appreciation of Distributor Control System (DCS).
  • Trouble shooting and fault-finding ability.
  • Good verbal and written communication – proficiency in English language.
  • Good interpersonal relationship skill.
  • Valid permit to work competency certificate
  • Valid Lockout and Isolation competency certificate
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office).
  • Valid Code B Driver’s license.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensure all Legal, Health, Safety and Environment standards and policies are adhered to.
  • Lead by example through compliance with the company purpose and values.
  • Perform start-up, shutdown or emergency shutdown of the plant, sections or individual units using field control panels
  • Perform plant inspections at the start of every shift and report deviations to Shift Supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Follow operating procedures/instructions and safety standards for the assigned area to achieve set production targets and product quality.
  • Monitor all process parameters for area and record the actuals in a log sheet.
  • Diagnose cause of process deviation from information available (DCS, HMI panels, visual inspections, log sheets, plant personnel reports) and take remedial action.
  • Ensure that all warning lights and warning systems, equipment and instruments are operational and report deviations accordingly.
  • Report all defective equipment, deviations (missing guards, broken handrails, etc.) in assigned area.
  • Perform and document risk assessment prior to work execution
  • Operate special identified equipment – training and license required.
  • Support Shift Supervisor or Senior Operator in checking plant isolation and permit to work compliance for people working in area.
  • Participate in Planned Task Observations (PTO) when required by Shift Supervisor.
  • Communicate with team members/colleagues when maintenance or repair is needed.
  • Perform daily housekeeping in assigned area including preparation for equipment maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by Shift Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Grade 12 Certificate with a minimum of 23 points in 6 subjects.
  • 1-2 years of industrial plant or smelting experience.
  • Sound physical fitness as the area may be subjected to high temperatures.
  • Must be computer literate (Microsoft Office Package: Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Knowledge and application of plant specific technical training.
  • Trouble shooting and fault-finding ability.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work well in a team.
  • Former DPM Tsumeb employees meeting minimum requirements will receive preference.
